Why are we offering scholarships?
Secondary education is incredibly important in today’s society, with many job applications requiring a Bachelor’s as a minimum. In 2020, the median earnings of those with a bachelor’s degree were 63 percent higher than those who completed high school ($36,600).
Today, our economy has a greater lack of skilled tradesmen compared to typical jobs performed by college graduates. College is not for everyone, but the skills learned in trade school are vital to the economy and our society.
Being equipped with trade skills provides meaningful ways to contribute to our community and can potentially increase someone’s earnings, leading to many more entrepreneurship opportunities.
We’re Passionate About Education
“My parents and I are Chinese immigrants, and we moved here when I was about 4 years old. As immigrants, we didn’t have much access to the industries of corporate America for career options, especially since we didn’t have the funds for college education. Because of scholarship opportunities, a college education became obtainable for me, and I received a couple of scholarships that enabled me to achieve a BA in Business Management, even learning the skills I currently use to operate here at Insectek!
With our Insectek Scholarship program, I want to give back, to give that extra push and funding to make training and education obtainable – as it was made for me – that lead to career opportunities and help our community grow.”
Jenny McAvoy, Founder
Why are trade schools included?
“The burden of student loans isn’t appealing. With trade schools, you can find yourself paying only a third or less of what traditional colleges cost, finish sooner, and begin your career in no time.
After COVID, there’s been a huge demand for trade jobs, including painting, roofing, contractor work, pest control, and even more skilled trades like semiconductor work, electrical technician work, oil field work, and more. Your trade skill education and experience can even turn into an entrepreneurial endeavor in the future or help you get your foot in the door in starting a career in major industries.
We want to support tradespeople – they’re the ones who make the economy run, the ones who are repairing infrastructure, like when a hurricane strikes. Traditional college isn’t for everyone, some people are more adept with hands-on and technical skills instead in more traditional schooling and soft-skill industries, so we’re here to help aspiring trade school students as well.”
